‘I’m what you might call a hybrid… a creative person who has a strong left brain.
Jeff has spent his life in pursuit of creative endeavors. His love of art and design started with a desire to create his own characters and tell stories in his own comic books, with a long-range goal of becoming a comic book artist. But since he grew up in the era before it became easier to self-publish, he soon realized that it may not be the best way to build a career. He soon after discovered that there was such a thing as “commercial art” and graphic design, and made the decision that this is where he wanted to be.
After earning his first degree, Jeff soon landed his first job in a firm that developed and constructed environmental and architectural graphics, which helped him to hone his skills for large format graphics and precision. As the years went on, he shifted to the medical industry, where he became a one-man in-house art department. The next few years would see Jeff relocate from North Carolina to the desert of Arizona, where he would continue to hone his skills as a designer, working with fields such as real estate, construction, and automotive. It was work such as this and a love of motorsports that presented the opportunity to work with the top teams and sponsors in both NASCAR and the NHRA, designing “paint schemes” that would be seen by millions each week both in person and on TV.
The invaluable experience gained here promoted him to an Art Director, and a team of artists working under him. This presented Jeff with the chance to mentor a new generation of designers and artists, with many of them going on to creating their own successful careers. As time went on, Jeff’s experience continued to grow as he was able to add that ability to design graphics for commercial vehicles and environmental graphics for retail and government entities.
Through the years, Jeff has always found ways to reinvent himself while keeping the firm foundation that he has built throughout his career. Whether working in a small agency or running the in-house art department of a large company, he has maintained a high standard in the work that he creates while immersing himself in new ways to communicate a brand’s story to the public. Soon to be armed with a new degree, Jeff is ready to unveil his new persona: a “Creative Hitman” that can be called upon either as an addition to an existing art department or as a freelancer that is capable of delivering solid creative for any industry from the well-established to a start-up. With this treatment, Jeff has now come full circle, and is finally getting the chance to tell the type of stories that he dreamed of telling when he was in his early teens.
When he's not designing, you can usually find him doing one of several things. He could be working on DIY projects at home, "attempting" to play one of his guitars, pursuing his passion for the TV series Doctor Who (which lets him live out a “second childhood”), watching motorsports, cheering on his favorite hockey or football teams or just relaxing around the house with his wife and cat.
